The last of May to early June is prime flathead time....but it's all got to do with water temps.

July and the first half of August are the best months in Northern Wisconsin for Big Channels. _________________ Life is great--enjoy it while you can. Go Catfishing |

Our largest blue, a 52-incher (shorefishing from wing dikes on the Missouri River) came the third week of August. Our second largest blue, a 41-incher, came the second or third week of July. In both cases the water had risen significantly (3-6 feet) in the previous couple of days following several weeks of lower water. My conclusion is that for catfishing large rivers from shore in the summer, rising water can be a great factor in your favor regardless of the month.

For big channels late April early May. Flatheads it's a toss up between late June or all of September.

I'd say that February and March are the best for monster channels and it's about the same for the big blues. For flathead, it's probably September.

Sorry, I should have said End of July, August, and September for size. June and early July for numbers.

Matt
I like Dec and Jan for big blues.
Late May into June produce my largest channel cats.
By going through records I found that really big flathead can come from May till October.
